New-Age Drive-In

Tesla has filed plans with the City of Los Angeles, concerning a combination Supercharger/restaurant to be built at 7001 Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood.

The plans show a circular two storey building with 218 seats separated between the first and second floors, and an outside dining and bar area. Stairway and elevators run up the spine, allowing seating to be arrayed around the outside ring of the floor plans.

In addition, the second floor seems to have a 77-seat theater, facing outward to view two gigantic 45 foot tall LED screens, which will be placed in the parking lot so Tesla owners can watch movies while plugged into the 28 V3 Superchargers on site.

Just like an old school drive-in diner, owners can order food and have them delivered to their vehicle. The plans specify that the location will be open 24 hours, and show movies between 7am and 11pm. And it wouldn’t be an Elon venture if he didn’t let you pay for all of this with Dogecoin.

There is another Tesla Supercharger station already on Santa Monica Boulevard, however it’s over 13 miles away, and of course doesn’t have a restaurant or drive-in.

This place seems like it would be fun. The sort of movie-viewing experience that drive-ins used to offer have slowly faded away over the last couple of decades, and the design of the building to ensure equal viewing between restaurant and Supercharger users is pretty interesting.

This is, however, only in the planning phase, so if it gets approved, Tesla owners in Hollywood would still have to wait over a year for bidding and construction to be finished. Make your plans accordingly.
