Slow Quarter despite Production Record

Tesla recently published their report on second quarter vehicle production and deliveries, and to go with that, the EV company reported that June 2022 has the highest vehicle production numbers in Tesla history.

The overall quarterly numbers were unfortunately down from last quarter, breaking Tesla’s streak of quarter-over-quarter growth that they’d been enjoying since mid-2020 - which is amazing considering the shutdowns and supply chain issues that have plagued not just Tesla, but the world, during that time.

Indeed, the shutdowns and supply chain issues seem to be the cause for this slight downturn in overall performance this quarter, as all the production and shipping issues finally took their toll.

The numbers here are mostly sticking to the trend for the last several years; Tesla will have a good couple quarters, then dip off for at least one before rebounding.

And that’s likely to happen again. Tesla announced they were shutting down GigaBerlin for upgrades and the addition of a third shift; GigaTexas is planning a 500,000 ft2 expansion.

And GigaShanghai has been steadily growing their production numbers despite difficult COVID restrictions - on top of preparing for their own shutdown for upgrades. Once completed - around August 7th by company estimates - the factory will have increased its output of Model Y SUVs by 3000 units per week, and Model 3 sedans by 2,200 units per week.

If Tesla’s workers keep up this pace, the next quarter should hold more records, and healthier numbers.
