Tesla Delivers Over 310K EVs!

The Q1 2022 reports are in and Tesla has shipped an outstanding 310,048 vehicles worldwide; breathing out last quarter’s 309,000, and casting a gigantic 68% increased shadow over last year’s Q1 numbers.

Despite the great number, Tesla had a rough Q1, with delays to Giga Berlin, and the shutdown of Giga Shanghai due to rising COVID numbers in that population. The gigafactory produces over 2000 vehicles per day, meaning Tesla missed out on about 14000 vehicles over the week Shanghai has been closed.

So Tesla is right to celebrate. CEO Elon Musk praised the whole Tesla team and suppliers:

It wasn’t just Giga Shanghai’s closure that complicated this quarter of course. The whole industry suffered from supply chain issues, leading to about a 12% decrease in new vehicle sales compared to a year ago. Joe Biden’s favourite company, GM, for example, only shipped 457 electric vehicles this quarter.

This huge disparity has everything to do with the careful positioning Tesla has been performing over the last couple years. The extra giga-factories, shipping partnerships, battery production, and research spending have clearly all paid off.
