GigaFactory Texas Grand Opening Event
Tesla confirmed it will be holding a Gigafest event at their new Austin facility on April 7th, according to CEO Elon Musk.
In a tweet originally saying the event was planned for April 1st, Musk quickly changed the date to April 7th - likely realizing April Fools would be a bad day to plan an event.
Originally hinted at back in October, Elon said the event is likely to be a large BBQ for Tesla fans and community members; and given the size of Giga Texas, this could shape up to be the largest Tesla event so far. Further confirmation materialized in December, confirming the event would happen sometime in 2022, and then finally, we received word from the CEO that April 7th would be the day.
So aside from a BBQ, what else could be on the docket for event-goers? Well, we know there will definitely be a factory tour, but a look at Gigafest Berlin shows that much more could be available for curious fans. The Berlin festival had fair-like rides for kids, talks from company heads like Elon himself, and of course test drives of the new Model Y on a closed circuit.
This last one seems pretty likely given the amount of fresh Model Ys parked outside Giga Texas waiting to be delivered.
Tesla recently moved their company headquarters to Austin after Elon himself made the decision to sell all of his California houses and relocate permanently to Texas. Elon’s new office is located inside the Austin factory and overlooks the production line.
The Austin factory will be one of Tesla’s biggest victories when it opens, with its big draw being the 4680 equipped Model Y due to roll out immediately. And given Tesla’s history of going big with their parties, the grand opening of their prized facility will be an event you won’t want to miss.
